Nebraska was a very long drive, over 430 miles, so we made an unintended stop at Fort Kearney Recreation Area. At the Fort Kearney campground we were hit with a storm in the wee hours of the morning that shook the RV and made the little pond we were parked at come up to almost to the back of the RV. I was wondering why the little western painted turtle the night before was digging her eggs so far from the pond. She knew.

The next day we headed for the Pioneer Village since our drive to Ogallala was only 3 hours away. The Pioneer Village wasn't really a village, but more like a museum of hanger after hanger of old time yesterday America technology from the 1700- 1800s through the 60s..from Conestoga Wagons which Studebaker built during the Civil War to Royal Royces. They had every type of transportation, first airplanes, bikes, Harleys, etc..Toys, collections, Curier and Ives, Quilts. They did have an original sod house, old time school, church and hanger after filled with all kinds of tools and inventions, the first HAM radios, the first washing machines with what they cost when first bought. You can see some of the photos below. I took a lot of the horse tools for Ben and the first RV which was really a gypsy wagon. The museum was in need of renovation being way off I-80, on HWY 6, but Pat and I thought for all the items they had and information it was very interesting. If you are a automobile person you would love it. http://pioneervillage.org/

Lake Ogallala was at first lovely because the cottonwood trees were "snowing" and the lake was so beautiful, but it got scarier than Kearney. Pat was sure a tornado was going to hit us and it was dejavu because 20 years before with the boys we got hit with a similar storm in the exact same campground.
